Job Description


Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), ACN North America, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be responsible for leading all information technology services initiatives including back-office architecture, selection and management of hardware, software and services vendors, solutions development, infrastructure operations and service delivery for ACN North America. The CIO will lead a 50+ person IT team with operations located in Concord,  North Carolina. The CIO will manage a combined capital and expense budget in excess of $10 million annually. The CIO role is viewed as a strategic leadership role in the company and this executive will be expected to contribute as a member of the senior leadership team for North  America.

The current IT environment at ACN consists of both purchased package solutions and in-house developed applications. There continues to be the need to optimize upgrades and integrate these combined solutions in order to accelerate flow-through cycles in key business operations process areas, which include representative tracking and commissions, customer provisioning, billing and customer care. 


  • Manage overall IT services functions across North America
  • Perform systems rationalization and develop best-in-class practices including greater usage of structured approaches, documented processes, performance measurement and metrics
  • Define, develop and implement a clean, consistent, enterprise data platform and related data warehouse capabilities to help drive revenue management and optimize customer experience 
  • Create a comprehensive IT strategy to match the long-term strategy of the business, and continually monitor its progress. Prioritize and align  IT resources to maximize productivity and fulfill the strategic plan
  • Participate, lead and contribute thought leadership through the development of an overall business strategy  (both short- and long-term) and in areas of opportunity to grow the company
  • Develop a deep understanding of the drivers of the business including customer analytics, service delivery and performance, and customer care
  • Manage IT operations, telecommunications and related technical infrastructure services, as well as related service level agreements (SLAs), both internally and with any external service/solution providers
  • Launch new IT initiatives supporting new product development and introductions


  • Analyze and manage all vendor relationships and systems opportunities, including outsourcing/in-sourcing and alternative resource solutions
  • Partner with line operating business leaders as part of the senior management team to fully leverage IT to drive business initiatives and profitability
  • May perform other duties as required


A hands on process-oriented leader, with strong project management skills and the ability to balance these with the requirement for innovation who looks to the business and aligns the IT function to support business needs.

He/she will also be expected to provide the leadership required to meet the needs of the business and operate as a  strategic partner that seeks to find ways to improve business performance  and enhance growth. The CIO needs  to be capable of operating a lean, efficient organization and will bring  the right combination of leadership, vision and energy to the  organization.
  • Execution  skills: A pragmatic professional who makes  things happen, with a passion for delivery rather than deliberation. One who is collaborative, but focused and decisive, and drives relentless execution of day-to-day operations, continuous      improvement, and the delivery of critical projects and programs. Someone who will personally solve problems, spontaneously give feedback and coach others, and take decisive      action to ensure strategic business and IT objectives are achieved.
  • Influencing skills: The new CIO will drive significant organizational change that is fueled by increased demand for improved      capabilities, new products and growth. As such, he/she will need to influence key operating leaders to make decisions that may be perceived as difficult. The CIO must be able to influence others through his/her credibility, leadership skills, and the ability to build and present compelling business cases.

  • Working knowledge PC operating systems and hardware
  • The employee must occasionally lift  and/or move up to 10 lbs.

  • Constantly operates a computer and  other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine,  and computer printer.


  • A college degree in computer science, MIS, business or a related major is required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years or more experience in progressively responsible information technology leadership roles known for their outstanding IT departments
  • Proven success in a CIO role of an organization with revenues of $300 million or larger
  • Track record of success in an IT leadership role enabling the business to scale effectively and efficiently
  • Experience managing IT departments of 50+, and proportionate capital and operational budgets
  • Proven success building and leading a strong management team
  • Proven success leading a team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Proven transformation experience, from legacy-to-new systems environments, leveraging efficiently integrated applications, flexible platform architecture, CRM and customer data analytics
  • Industry experience will ideally include telecommunications (local, long distance, data, VoIP, and consumer-retail)
  • Experience should also include proven success leading legacy-distributed systems and commercial package integration, emphasizing customer provisioning, engineering, billing and new product development
  • OSS solutions experience is also required 
  • Integrated call-center, customer care and service-level delivery experience are very desirable
  • Track record of growing businesses and profitability through systems capabilities and efficiencies
  • Proven experience implementing structured approaches, process disciplines and performance-based measurement
  • A strong fiscal management, return-on-investment (ROI) orientation and EBITDA contribution mindset is required
